History of Castle Craig Camera Club

The CASTLE CRAIG CAMERA CLUB  was founded in 1955 as a result of a course in photography which was sponsored by the YMCA of Meriden. Mr. & Mrs. Willis Cone were instrumental in obtaining the services of an instructor for the course and the enthusiasm of the students resulted in an active and ongoing camera club.

The original name was The CASTLE CRAIG COLOR CAMERA CLUB and was devoted to the advancement of color slide photography. In the fall of 1955 Fredrick Flatow, a well known amateur photographer, assumed the presidency of the club.  He served in this capacity for a year and a half. Under his guidance the club joined the PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY of AMERICA (PSA). Club members began entering PSA sponsored contests and as time passed many CCCC members became members  of PSA well. Later on (date unknown) the club became affiliated with the NEW  ENGLAND CAMERA CLUB COUNCIL (NECCC).

Our name, Castle Craig is a well known outstanding landmark of Meriden. So it was fitting that the club be named after  the Castle Craig , which is in Hubbard Park. The name was later changed to CASTLE CRAIG CAMERA CLUB because of the introduction of print photography and the word 'color" was dropped from the club name.
